Jorge Lopez-Tello

Jorge Lopez-Tello completed his PhD in Veterinary Medicine in 2017 (Madrid, Spain). In 2018, he was awarded a Newton Royal Society International fellowship to continue his research career at the Centre for Trophoblast Research (University of Cambridge, UK), where he examined the impact of cell-specific deletion of PI3K signalling on feto-placental growth. Currently, Jorge holds a Sir Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral Fellowship and his work employs a variety of animal models to understand the aetiology and consequences of pregnancy complications on maternal and offspring health. His research lines are focused on two main areas: (1) to understand the role of placental hormones on maternal metabolic health and (2) to examine how the maternal gut microbiota influences feto-placental development. His research projects have been funded by the Royal Society, Society for Endocrinology, EU Commission and the Wellcome Trust.
