Wiebke Alrt

Wiebke Arlt is the William Withering Chair of Medicine and Director of the Institute of Metabolism and Systems Research (IMSR) at the University of Birmingham, UK. She leads a multi-disciplinary research group investigating steroid metabolism and action in health and disease; major translational focus areas are adrenal tumours and polycystic ovary syndrome. As an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist, she is responsible for adrenal and reproductive endocrinology services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, part of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. Wiebke has published over 200 original research articles and is a sought-after lecturer. Her scientific work has attracted several national and international awards, most recently the 2016 European Society for Endocrinology Clinical Endocrinology Trust Medal, the 2017 German Society for Endocrinology Berthold Medal, and the 2019 Outstanding Clinical Investigator Award of the Endocrine Society USA. She has been elected Fellow of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences in 2010.
